Victoria

The State that has it all, except weather (sometimes). Wine, Beaches, Great Food, Golf Courses, Day Spa’s and Hot Springs.

Winton Wetlands comprises 8750 acres of protected wetlands, with over 32 different zones and 180 species of birds. The wetlands were made into a lake, Lake Mokoan in 1971, resulting in the death of the large swamp gums and numerous other species. In 2009 it was decided to drain the lake and return the area to wetland. The area is culturally significant to the Yorta Yorta people and they now have input into the running of the site. When you visit and walk around you can feel how alive the area is, with birds using all the old hollow trees for nesting and animals that would have used the wetlands for generations prior to the Lake being formed returning.
